Decolonising the Curriculum

Decolonisation can mean different things to different people, and will likely impact academic disciplines in different ways. Despite this, there is one common feature to all such efforts; they are not about removing anyone from the curriculum, but about ensuring that voices are not silenced unfairly and global contributions to knowledge are recognised.

Decolonisation demands a reflective, critical approach that can be difficult or uncomfortable to work through. The Students’ Union has worked to ease this process through the production of a toolkit to provide foundational and accessible tools that help with the journey. There is also a Community of Practice that you can join on Canvas, which provides more information and promotes collaboration in this endeavour.

Training and development events related to decolonisation will be listed on the Teaching Academy Events page, where you will also find information on other upcoming opportunities.
