We’re pleased to confirm that an automatic rollover of Canvas courses for 2026-27 has been agreed. This approach is designed to save time and provide a consistent starting point for the new academic year.
What this means for you
- Your 2025–26 course content will be automatically copied into your 2026–27 course shell.
- Courses will begin to appear in Canvas between 16–19 June. Do not use them until 23rd June to ensure the process is complete and nothing need to be reset wiping any work.
- This gives you a structured starting point, allowing you to focus on updating and enhancing your materials rather than rebuilding from scratch.
Support available
To help you prepare your courses effectively, we will provide:
- A live webinar demonstrating the rollover process and key considerations
- A practical checklist outlining the steps needed to review and update your course
These resources will guide you through best practice, including reviewing content, updating dates, and ensuring accessibility and quality standards are met.
Important actions required
Following rollover, you will need to:
- Review and update your course content
- Publish your course to make it available to students
In line with DASS best practice, courses should be published at least two weeks before the start of semester. For 2026-27, this means your course should be published by 14 September.
Unpublished courses will not be visible to students, so please ensure this step is completed ahead of teaching.
Staff roles and enrolments
Staff access to Canvas courses is driven by Campus Solutions.
To ensure the correct staff appear in your course:
- Please check that roles and teaching allocations are accurate in Campus Solutions
- If there have been changes over the past year—or planned changes for the new academic year—please liaise with your administrative teams as soon as possible
This will ensure staff are enrolled correctly in Canvas and have the appropriate permissions.
Missing courses
If you do not see the correct Canvas courses by 23 June, please raise a Connect ticket with the eLearning team so this can be investigated promptly.
